What is the Own Every Bite Program All About?

The concept of Own Every Bite! was born out of my work with thousands of men and women over the course of my career as a personal trainer, health educator and professional coach.

A coach is full of questions.

When I asked my clients what they ate, they often responded with guilt and embarrassment. They lied on their food logs (ever done this?) about the types of foods and how much they ate. Sometimes, they even ran from their coaching appointment because of their shame.

A coach is full of curiosity.

Rather than get judgmental – after all, I had done everything they had done MANY TIMES!!! – I got curious about their pain.

1. It doesn’t feel good to be ashamed of our behaviors. It stems from the idea of “good” and “bad” foods – propagated by Diet World!

2. Regaining weight (which happens after EVERY restrictive diet) is debilitating – it’s hard on the body and the psyche!

3. It seems easier to HIDE. Most of my clients were hiding their real relationship with food. Their dependence on food had grown into food addiction, or disordered eating – a dysfunctional relationship that was holding them back from feeling healthy self-esteem and joy in life.

4. My clients also shared their denial – their pretense they were not addicts and dysfunctional – made them victims, full of excuses, blame and dishonesty.

When we deny what’s happening between ourselves and food, we also deny the POWER of food.
